RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Regeneration and Optical Routing Product Design

SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION:

Integral player in the innovative and state of the art design of new technologies for the Regeneration and Optical Routing Division with emphasis on optical and electrical design elements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide integration lead for R&D in introducing new optical and electrical design technologies and concepts
  • Work with product line managers (PLM) and customers in generating proposals to customers in the optical communications space
  • Lead design activities by coordinating functional groups in product design and implementation
  • Lead optical design to meet customer requirements at the lowest cost
  • Understand electro-optics, leverage electronics and software- based controls to increase value proposition in the market place
  • Effectively manage software integration during product development
  • Demonstrate success through compliance to cost, schedule, specification, quality and manufacturability
  • Work with vendors in component development suitable for telecom optics
  • Translate customer requirements to component level specification
  • Specify optical components to internal and external vendors
  • Evaluate vendors, manage their progress, and enable successful realization of components suitable for telecom industry
  • Work with manufacturing teams located in Asia and enable successful product introduction
  • Interface with customers throughout the product development cycle and establish strong partnership
  • Use design-to-cost models and other methods to assure optical design requirements are met
  • Apply significant telecom industry experience, understand customer challenges, use acute R&D skills, and excellent communications capability to influence development of a strong product Roadmap
  • Follows standard practices and precedure in analyizing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained
JOB CHALLENGES:

Ability to work with cross-cultural, cross-functional teams in multiple geographies on product design, able to execute complex activities in a short amount of time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS:
  • MS or Ph.D in Electrical engineering, Optics, or Physics
  • Ten or more years of experience in leading cross-functional teams in optics, electronics and mechanical engineering
  • Track record of success in introducing products to customers in the telecom space
  • Demonstrated leadership in a global development and manufacturing organization
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
  • Good understanding of optical physics of components and sub-systems used in DWDM telecommunications network: EDFA gain dynamics, understand components and technologies for routing and regeneration. Supervise creattion and simulation of models, parametric measurement of optical components
  • Working knowledge of control systems and electronics: Ability read schematics, model control systems, understand the interaction between electronics & optics, develop algorithms to enhance optical performance & functions
  • Skilled in leading project teams through the entire product life cycle
  • Working knowledge in ERP/MRP and Configuration Management systems such as SAP and Agile
  • Effective communication skills:
    • Reliable and effective communicator in a global team setting
    • Careful archestrator and manager of internal and external component vendors
    • Acute and thoughtful interface provider to customers in the optical telecom space
    • Articulate and dependable communicator with Oclaro's upper management team
MISCELLANEOUS:
  • Willing to travel globally 15% and work overtime as needed
