European RoHS Compliance

Directive 2002/95/EC of the European Parliament of 27th January 2003 on the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) in electrical and electronic equipments entered into force on 13th February 2003. This directive prohibits the use of heavy metals (Lead, Mercury, Cadmium and Hexavalent Chromium) and two brominated compounds (PBB and PBDE). The directive is applicable throughout the EU from 1st July 2006.

Oclaro is fully committed to environment protection and sustainable development and has set in place a comprehensive program for removing polluting and hazardous substances from all of its products. RoHS compliance is an integral part of our environmental policies and procedures, and Oclaro has worked with each of our suppliers to ensure the RoHS compliance of all of our infeed components. The relevant evidence of RoHS compliance is held as part of our controlled documentation for each of our compliant products.

The Oclaro policies, procedures, and documentary evidence for RoHS compliance is audited by external independent auditors as part of our ISO9001 and 14001 assurances. This was specifically audited in April 2006 and was fully approved by the independent auditors.

Oclaro recognizes two levels of conformance for its products:

  • RoHS 5/6 which utilizes the "lead in solder" exemption1, and is restricted to use in telecommunications infrastructure applications
  • RoHS 6/6 which does not utilize the "lead in solder" exemption and is suitable for use in broader applications.

Oclaro has been delivering RoHS compliant versions of its products to customers since April 2006.

Please refer to your Oclaro sales representative for detailed information on how to order the appropriate RoHS compliant product from Oclaro.

Certificates of Conformance to the RoHS Directive can be provided to customers for all compliant products on request.

1 Commission Decision 2005/747/EC: This Commission Decision amended the original RoHS Directive on 21 October 2005. These exemptions are currently in force. Annex to Directive 2002/95/EC is amended as follows '7. -- Lead in high melting temperature type solders (i.e. lead-based alloys containing 85 % by weight or more lead), -- lead in solders for servers, storage and storage array systems, network infrastructure equipment for switching, signalling, transmission as well as network management for telecommunications, -- lead in electronic ceramic parts (e.g. piezoelectronic devices).
