Tunable Technology

Oclaro’s tunable laser solutions are based on our proprietary Digital Supermode Distributed Bragg Reflector (DS-DBR) design, which has been widely adopted in a range of tunable transponder products for more than a decade, and well over 500,000 lasers have been field deployed. A key accomplishment over the past two years has been the adaptation of the DS-DBR design to coherent applications, where high optical output power, narrow linewidth, low phase noise, and compact form factors are key requirements. This was achieved by optimizing the cavity geometry and the multi-quantum-well gain section, offering a lower intrinsic linewidth enhancement factor; these changes have also delivered superior operational characteristics at high operating temperature, leading to further reduction in overall power dissipation.
